Strategic Marketing Management

The final project for this course was to create a strategic marketing plan for an organization or facility of our choosing. I chose to create a plan for the Eastern 4-H Center located in Columbia, NC. The objective of this assignment was to allow students to dive down into all facets and details of creating an effective marketing approach for an organization. Select the “Primary Artifact” button below to view the final project for this course. A summary of the course and a reflection on the artifact is below as well.

Summary

When I first reviewed the core courses for the PRTM degree program I immediately gained interest in its learning objectives. I have always enjoyed advertising and promoting events, which I had some previous experience in during my undergraduate studies and at my current place of work. This course helped me build a firm foundation on how to properly market an organization with specific intent and attention to details. I have learned skills in the area of forecasting trends that populations may be interested in, as well as having a keen eye for proactively addressing future challenges that our organization may face. Dr. Jonathan Casper did a phenomenal job of providing beneficial feedback on my assignments and pointing out the “blindspots” I may have overlooked in my assessments - this was greatly appreciated. Despite me having some experience in this area, Dr. Casper taught me how to be more detailed, but yet concise in regards to marketing efforts. The use of case studies in this course was very well done and effective for my learning style too! It kept me interested and allowed me to explore various marketing strategies and theories. I really enjoyed this course, as it taught me that strategic marketing is more than just a flyer and a social media post, but an in-depth analysis that focuses on every perspective imaginable.

Reflection

My PRT 507 primary artifact was an in-depth marketing plan for the Eastern 4-H Center located in eastern North Carolina. I chose this facility for my project because this is a place that I visit every summer for my 4-H Summer Camp. Though it is extremely popular with youth that participate in traditional 4-H programs within the state and especially in Hyde County, I felt that this facility could reach even more diverse populations with a fresh perspective. I think the Eastern 4-H Center is the best kept secret near the Outer Banks of North Carolina and if more people knew about the endless opportunities at this facility it could really experience tremendous growth year-round. This marketing plan was a huge undertaking, but it gave me the opportunity to really connect with the personnel at the facility and sift through its current marketing plans, future changes, and all it truly has to offer. After numerous conversations, interviews, and research I found that the Eastern 4-H Center has more to offer than even I knew and has really came a long ways since its inception. Additionally, it was brought to my attention that there was room for growth in the area of strategic marketing that focused on advertising and promotions. This project enabled me to assist a familiar place with creative ideas that is planned to be implemented in the future! Very exciting news!
